Default Guild Capes

I would like to suggest a change to the way guild emblems and capes work.
How about making the guild capes/patterns work like this :

Guild leader chooses cape pattern, emblem, etc. like it is now.
However :
Guild members automatically take a copy of the leader's pattern BUT allow them to change the individual emblem design and condition of THEIR cape. This would allow a level of uniquness amongst the individual characters within a guild.

It might also be a good idea to have a secondary "individual" tag. Make it the Primary tag in size and the guild's tag secondary. (or vice versa)

One other suggestion concerning guilds : Allow there to be a guild "council" that would handle the authority in the guild. The Guild Leader would authorize this to begin with and then the council would have the ability to vote members out of the guild. (It would make the guild semi-democratic) This would particularly be useful if the guild leader dropped out or stopped playing. Give the council the ability to even oust the leader. (Hence why the leader would have the initial authority to authorize this style of governance) This would be amazingly useful in the long run.

Well you see Guilds are sort of set up like that now. The guild leader can appoint captains that can choose memeber to allow in. That way its not just up to the leader who can join...but as far as ousting members...I think this should leaders decision...if you don't like someone or whatever just petition your leader

It just seems to me that allowing members to customize their capes in the form of emblems, etc. would be really cool. Even if it's just a smaller logo somewhere...

A friend of mine and myself just started our guild a couple of days ago and designed our cape this morning. Amid all the arguing over what emblems to use, it seems that some sort of uniqueness would be pretty cool...

Another thought : It would be nice if you had the option to NOT include all the characters on your account in a guild. I.E. being able to join multiple guilds with different characters would be nice.

Joining multiple guilds with multiple characters would offer the chance for treasonous activities in that guild. If you have special interests in one guild, and you're fighting another, you can have a secondary character join that other guild, and pull your punches in the battles. That would be really lame, everyone would be doing it, and battles would suck, to say the least.

I think only cape condition should be customizable, as everything else is Guild-Specific. Unless we have a way of entering new images into the system to use while customizing...

I wholeheartedly agree with players being able to personalize their characters, however, I disagree with letting members change anything about their capes other than the general shape and the "wear" factor (new, slightly used, torn up, etc.). I see the capes as being the standard under which a group fights, just like the banners and standards that were developed in medieval times (and became the basis for Heraldry).

There's more than enough opportunity for characters to be personalized within a guild (aside from the limited facial/body features of creation). You have the various armor than can be upgraded and dyed. the variety of what is currently available (though the dye can be hard to come by), should be more than enough to keep your character unique without changing the emblem or colors of the cape.

Sounds to me like he just wants to have his own cape without having to earn it, ie. pay for it. Let someone else pay the cape cost and then allow him to change it.

You join a guild to be a member of a team, not to become a separate individual within the team. There is no "I" in team.

I don't much like your guild council idea either. Sounds like a perfect way for someone to take a guild away from someone who created it.

I think maybe you should just create your own guild.

But there's a "me"!

Anyway, this is a bad idea. The point of the cape is so that others can, at a glance, recognize your allegiance. If every member of every guild had some random symbol, it would just add to the confusion.

I think the heart of this post is touches more on further individualization of your character - there are just so many really similar looking characters in the game, its not uncommon to get your characters confused. Especially once you get a guild cape - when you fight with guild members and your character faces away from you, you can barely distinguish them.

Thats why each member of the guild should be able to have a smaller secondary symbol below the main symbol, distinguishing each member.

Like this idea, and also maybe make the cap toggable, since while it looks good on a hearty Warriors, a cape may look silly on a Elementalist for example.

My friend and I DID create our own guild and DID pay for our cape. The problem we ran into was that we had a hard time agreeing on what that cape should look like. Even if it's just a small secondary symbol, something that would cost to add, that would be really cool.

This game needs more visual uniqueness for characters. Sure, characters are helluva customizable in terms of gameplay, but everyone ends up looking so much the same. Even the dye's don't usually effect much of the armor you're wearing or weapon you're using. i.e. I applied a silver dye to a Ranger "jacket/trench coat" looking armor. I expected it to change the primary color of the armor. The trimming changed colors. That's it. The trimming. There was almost no noticable change to the actual look of the character itself. There's got to be more ways to customize your character. Maybe different player models/body build styles for each profession. Right now, if I want to create a warrior, he has to have this big barrel chested appearance. I might want to create a warrior who's body style looks more like an elementalist or a mesmer. Or even a ranger. It's so wrong how there's only one body style for each sex of each profession. That's a miniscule 12 body styles right there. (that would drastically enhance the customization factor of your characters)

=============================

As for the council idea, I've played in some MMORPG's where Guilds and guild warfare were a large part of the gameplay (in fact, in one particular, it was all about that) We encountered all sorts of treachery, but nothing was ever so bad as the guild leader quitting the game without telling the rest of the guild. So, you have this guild that suddenly has to go through the whole reformation process and adopt a new name, status, etc. Why? Because the guild leader had all the power and quit. That should be reason enough to incorporate some sort of internal guild governing system whereby leadership can consist of a council instead of just one leader.

The problem with the fear that a council is just a way for someone to take over leadership from a leader is that a guild consists of multiple people. Not just one leader. The guild should have the power to act in case of treachery from the leadership. (which is the worst kind of treachery)

As for treachery stemming out of someone having the ability to be in multiple guilds : If you buy two accounts, you can do that anyways. It's not prevented this way. (maybe discouraged a little, but not prevented) Most serious MMOG players I know end up with multiple accounts for their favorite game. In the case of the guild issue, they may not even be looking to cause treachery, but rather to have a way to play the game without having to be bothered by the rest of their guild brethren all the time.

=============================

It would also be nice if you could assign ranks, etc. to members of your guild. (If there is already a way to do this, I am unaware of it. A nice intuitive interface in the Guild Status screen would be great)

Nahh.. I would prefer the same cape for 1 guild.. that's just.. yeah.. more logical aswel...

what would be ace is.. somehow being able to upload a new emblem into the game which you can use for your guild alone (unique) unless someone else uploads the exact same picture etc..

or something like ranks... Guildleader.. some special shoulder pads or something like in the army.. but that's juz for fun.

the unique uploadable guild emblem would be ace
